How long before you actually see results?
Most people quit right before the part that works. Here is a realistic timeline.
Hair grows slowly, so treatment timelines feel frustrating.
Weeks 0-4: nothing visible. Some people see a short shedding phase as follicles reset — this is normal and usually a sign the treatment is doing something.
Months 2-4: shedding slows. Hairs at the hairline or crown start coming in finer and shorter.
Months 4-6: the first honest photo comparison. Compare against a day-one photo in the same light, not against the mirror.
Months 6-12: the real result. Studies on both minoxidil and finasteride measure their primary outcomes here.
The single biggest predictor of results is consistency. Choose a routine you will actually keep — that is why our quiz asks about how much effort you want to spend.
